Alo Accolade + Lululemon Align High-Rise Mini Flared Pant | A Cozy Winter Review

People can’t stop raving about Alo Yoga’s iconic Accolade line. Is it worth the hype? More importantly, does it really keep you cozy all winter long? There is finally a decent amount of snow falling on the East Coast of the US and, believe it or not, I don’t have an oversized sweatshirt. Crazy, right?

I hear people raving about the Alo Accolade line and as soon as I saw the Accolade Crew Neck Pullover in the shade Icy Sage, I knew that I had to have it. Shades of green are my favorite and something light like icy sage makes it great for winter and spring, which feels like it will be here before we know it.

The Accolade line has hoodies, sweatpants, and pullovers. I opted for the pullover because I don’t have one and was actively looking for one. It’s french terry and fleece-lined, so it’s pretty cozy and warm inside. While I typically wear a medium, I purchased a large for a more over-sized look. If you don’t want something too oversized, I would recommend purchasing your regular size. I think that the embellished logo fits the color of the sweatshirt well so I don’t mind it. However, I am curious to see how it holds up over time with a few washes under its belt. The fleece-lined interior makes the Accolade pullover perfect for lounging. Is it worth $118 for a piece that’s 65% cotton and 35% polyester? I would say that it’s slightly overpriced, but this is a piece that I can justify spending the money on because it’s something that I know I will wear often – even if it doesn’t ever leave the confines of my home. Or my couch, for that matter.

I was disappointed to see that there were not any leggings released by Alo in this shade (at least, not yet), but I was luckily gifted a pair of Lululemon Align High-Rise Mini Flared Pant (Extra Short) in the shade Palm Court for Christmas. The Palm Court shade is a smidge darker than the Icy Sage color from Alo, but I see that as a positive thing because they look so good together and the difference is almost imperceptible, but very complimentary.

I have never been a Lululemon kind of person. I always thought that their leggings were quite expensive and I’d heard complaints about their quality going downhill over the last few years. However, I’ve been on a personal health journey for a few months now and started really getting into yoga, Pilates, and spinning (apparently that’s what they call it if it’s social, so maybe stationary biking is more accurate).

While I don’t like to wear leggings when I’m spinning because I just get too hot, I do like to wear leggings for yoga and Pilates. I’ve found that the Lululemon Aligns are quite hit or miss for me, depending on the cut. The Lululemon Align High-Rise Mini Flared Pant in a size 10 is excellent for both activities! They stay up on my waist well, breathe very easily, and give me cozy but almost naked feeling. On the other hand, the standard Lululemon Aligns in a size 10 slide down a bit, so I find myself wishing that I had sized down to an 8. At a petite 5’3″ or 160cm, this hits just below the ankle and is very flattering.

I received these leggings as a Christmas gift, but I know that they were also purchased on sale for $79, marked down from $118. I would definitely recommend these at the sale price! I would consider buying a standard color for full price because they’re very comfortable for both lounging and not-so-intense workouts like yoga and Pilates.

So, are these winter staples? I would say that for me, it definitely is. For you? It depends on what you’re looking for. I’m trying to be mindful when it comes to purchasing new items. Here are reasons why I would say it’s worth it in my wardrobe:

  • Doesn’t own another over-sized sweatshirt and was actively looking for one
  • Doesn’t leave the house often, other than to run errands (which I’d prefer to do while cozy)
  • Cost per wear is already looking pretty good
  • Was gifted the leggings, which I use often
  • No intentions to purchase another sweatshirt or set of leggings

If you are not in the market for an over-sized sweatshirt, I’d recommend saving your money for something that you’re already looking for. If you are, in the market and you’re looking for something from Alo, consider using my referral link for 15% off your first purchase.
